It is key for business users and IT users to collaborate when it comes to data. When implementing a data governance program, getting the right data to the right person at the right time and in the right format can make or break the adoption of the findings, processes and outcomes of a data governance program. The only way to determine the right person, the data that person cares about, when the person needs the data, and in what format they can consume the data is to involve these key users from the beginning and throughout the program. Without this involvement, it will come down to guess work and assumption. 

Data governance is a combination of people and technology working together. At a consumer packaging food and beverage customer, the master data group and other teams had a lot of overlapping activities among the plants about to go–live with a new system. They knew their data had to be clean and that any delay in their schedule would result in millions of dollars monthly in lost productivity. Today, they rely on a solution built from the components of people, process and method for success in master data management across product, material, customer, vendor and location data.
