In summer of 2017, BackOffice Associates was invited to provide support for a live SAP S/4HANA system. Working closely with the customer, BackOffice Associates identified and recommended FI Asset Accounting to extend their S/4HANA Solution as it would provide the required logical expansion of SAP functionality in support of the growing business.
In line with good practices for any SAP customer, a regular program of maintenance and upgrades should be agreed upon. In this case, it was agreed to upgrade from S/4HANA 1610 to the latest version S/4HANA 1709. The timing of the upgrade was targeted so that the customer could utilize the latest Asset Accounting Fiori Tiles made available in 1709.
Carrying out the SAP upgrade required a highly skilled Basis team working in conjunction with the necessary ABAP and Fiori Developers. Together with the technical team, functional experts were required, as well as commitment from the customer, to support the essential regression testing activities.
In this instance, a plan was prepared to upgrade each of the 3 Tier Environments to allow technical and functional teams the opportunity to test existing functions within the upgraded system. A particular challenge was the large number of changes to Fiori tiles.
Thanks to the combined hard work from the customer and BackOffice Associates teams, the project completed on time and hit their target date with no unplanned downtime and minimal impact to the end users. The customer can now enjoy the benefits from the use of new asset functionality.
Ongoing, the upgraded system benefits from the latest bug fixes and patches, which will allow for a more efficient support process working with both SAP and the BackOffice Associates support team.
